Hertfordshire removal services – Asking Your Friends to Help You Move

Hertfordshire removal services – Asking Your Friends to Help You Move

We’ve all been there at some point: you’re surrounded by a pile of boxes while preparing for a big move, thinking how nice it would be to have some assistance. Whether it’s a long-distance move or just a few houses down the street, you’re probably contemplating asking friends for moving help.

Moving is a daunting task, and few people enjoy the process. If you’re thinking about rallying some of your friends to help alleviate the stress and save money, here are some tips to make the request successful.

DO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT’S A BIG ASK

No one likes moving. It’s a fact we’ve come to accept, yet we all end up doing it at some point (or many). However, before you beg your friends and family for a helping hand, make it known that their help in your moving venture is appreciated! Your true friends will likely say yes and show up to assist, but it goes a long way to make sure they’re aware of how much it means to you.

DO PLAN AHEAD

What’s worse than being asked to help a friend move a heavy couch up four flights of stairs? Being asked to do it the morning of moving day. If you’re going to need a hand (or two) for your big move, make sure to give your friends a generous heads-up. Even if you’re just looking to borrow a vehicle to help transport larger items, a timely notice still applies. This will help the whole moving process go smoothly and give you time to get things organised before the day comes.

DON’T BE A BAD HOST

The last thing on your mind before a move is a trip to the grocery store; that said, do be sure to have snacks and beverages for your moving helpers. If you’re going to be lifting boxes, cleaning and organising all day, it’s important to keep your friends and family properly fed and hydrated. Remember to have some water, refreshments and healthy snacks on hand to keep you and your moving crew energised!

DON’T FORGET A GAME PLAN

It’s moving day! After asking friends for moving help, get your ducks in a row and make sure you have a plan of attack before they arrive with their sleeves rolled up. Do you need a hand organising boxes of delicate china, cleaning out your crawl space or loading heavy furniture in the back of a truck?

Come up with a plan so that when your help arrives, everyone knows what to do and where to be. Additionally, try to keep the natural tendency to over-delegate at bay. Your crew will appreciate some direction, but no one wants to be bossed around during a stressful day.

DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER

Sometimes, no matter how kindly you ask (or beg) there might not be any takers for moving help. Schedules are busy, and life gets in the way; however, you don’t have to do it all alone. If you find yourself needing to hire professionals, Alban City Remvals has you covered. Our professional movers will help you make your new transition smooth and stress-free. Contact us today! Removal Services in Stevenage - Four Easy Tips For Packing Fragile Items

Removal Services in Stevenage – Four Easy Tips For Packing Fragile Items

Ever since I moved houses and broke a beautiful antique washbasin, I’ve become a patient person when it comes to moving! It was a lovely Delft Blue basin that had been in my family for years, and I eventually tired of looking at that sad, grey-gluey scar running the length of that gorgeous porcelain and had to dispose of the piece. Preventing these moving tragedies is just a matter of adequate preparation and having the right tools.

Here are our easy tips to pack up your fragile items and keep them safe:

1. Prepare in advance. Packing up the valuable crystal, porcelain, and other breakables requires some time. This is not the place to rush. If you are not hiring movers, start well in advance of moving day and take the time to properly pack these items and decide if they’ll go in the moving truck or by car.

2. Have the right tools. Here’s what you need: quality moving boxes in various sizes; packing paper, bubble wrap, pliable cardboard, scissors, and packing tape. A large table to lay out your items and pack on is also an essential tool. For larger items, you might need an extra pair of hands.

3. Label it! Having the boxes with your delicate items clearly labelled as “fragile” will help your movers handle them more carefully, as well as help when unpacking and organising at your new place.

4. Know what items you will be packing and how to pack them properly. A flat-screen TV and your grandma’s china are both fragile items, but quite different when it comes to packing. Do your research on the best way to pack each item, and plan so you’re not caught short of bubble wrap on moving day.

How to pack the most popular fragile items:

‍Plates – plates should be packed vertically in small to medium boxes lined with crumpled packing paper on the bottom and top. Wrap each plate in bubble wrap and secure it with tape. Place the paper between the standing plates. Do not overpack the box. Alban City Removals has dish packs available for purchase, whether hiring our packing service or doing it yourself.

Glasses – wrap glasses individually with packing paper and place crumpled paper inside the large pieces to diminish empty space. Line small or medium boxes with ample packing paper, top and bottom. Layer spaces around glasses with paper as well, reducing as much as possible the chance of the items moving inside the box. Place the heaviest items on the bottom of the box, with lighter pieces on top.

Lamps – lamp shades should be boxed (flat side down) separately with lots of paper. Bases can be placed in a large box if necessary, and bubble wrap used where appropriate.

Pictures/Frames – picture frames should be placed in paper-lined small to medium boxes, and standing if larger than 8 inches, with crumpled paper in between each piece. Wrap frames in packing paper. Top frames with more packing paper to ensure items don’t move around in the box. When moving paintings and pictures that are over 3 feet in size, they should be secured with a moving blanket, plastic-wrapped, and moved separately.

TVs – flat-screen TVs can be tricky to pack. Start by removing any cables and accessories (such as the stand legs), and make sure to pack those in a clearly labelled box. Wrap the screen in a soft moving blanket, securing it all around the device with packing tape. Lastly, place it inside the box, and close it with tape. Make sure that the box is the correct size for your TV.

‍Speciality items – here is the way I should have packed my family’s antique wash basin, and this can be applied to all oddly-shaped, large, fragile items. It’s important to consider the shape and size of the piece, as well as any handles or protruding pieces that could break easily. Wrap the piece completely in bubble wrap, securing with tape. Place it on one piece of pliable, cut cardboard. Place an identical piece of cardboard on top of the item. Then bend the cardboard ends to meet and secure with tape.

Don’t be shy with the tape. Wrap the entire piece with tape if necessary. You want the fragile item snug and stable. Then place the piece in a paper-lined box that’s roughly the same size as the object, placing the crumpled paper in any gaps. Lastly, tape up the box securely and mark in bold felt marker: FRAGILE.

Many people use old towels, small blankets, newsprint, or even paper towels to wrap their fragile items. These are not wise choices. Newsprint can be dirty and means you have even more washing to do in your new home. Paper towels are not strong or reliable. Old towels slip easily and cannot be secured with tape, which is essential for proper packing of valuables. Please invest in the proper tools, and you won’t be sorry.

Finally, be sure to let your movers know which boxes contain fragile items. Most moving companies carry specialised boxes for fragile items, such as the dish packs and mirror/picture frame packs that Alban City Removals keeps in stock.

If you are at all unsure about your packing skills, ask for help. Alban City Removals offers professional packing services. Contact your local movers today to request an estimate.

Happy Moving!

Removals in Hertfordshire - Make Moving Less Stressful

Removals in Hertfordshire – Make Moving Less Stressful

Removals in Hertfordshire – Make Moving Less Stressful

1. Accept that stress is a normal part of the moving process

The first step to overcoming moving stress is acceptance. If you acknowledge that you are probably going to incur some stress throughout your move, you’re less likely to let it set you back when it happens. You will be prepared for it.

Think about it like this: stress is a natural human response to a demanding circumstance. However, you have a say in how you react to that stress. You can take it as something negative and have a bad time. Or you can work your way through it and accomplish great things.

Hertfordshire Removals

Our best advice is to take the stress for what it is and acknowledge the feeling. That way, you can work with it instead of being controlled by it. The most important thing is to recognise the stress without letting it deter you from the tasks at hand.

2. Stay organised!

Something that will help you a lot before, during, and after your move is to be organised every step of the way! For this, a list will be a very good ally.

There are a lot of things you have to do before, during, and after a move. Keeping all of this only in your head could lead to extra stress and forgetting some details. So, to reduce stress and minimise forgetfulness, writing everything down will make a big difference!

There are many resources on the internet that can help you. You can check out packing checklists or moving checklists to get some inspiration.

3. Honour the journey, all of it

Moving is also a heavily emotional process. Apart from all the things you have to do, moving means a lot of change will come to your life. You leave things behind, and you meet new people. This can generate both stress and excitement. So, honour that process and live the journey fully.

Removal Companies Hertfordshire

Things that can help ease your stress are to research your new town, neighbourhood or city. Don’t focus only on what you are leaving behind and how that makes you sad. You can also look forward to all the new, cool things awaiting you!

4. Try to keep a positive mindset

Keeping a positive mindset makes a big difference in every aspect of your life, not just moving! Science has shown that positive thinking helps with stress management and can even improve your health.

So while you face the stress generated by your upcoming move, remember to see it in a positive light. Embrace it, accept it, be patient with yourself. And try to see the bright side of things. This will make a difference for the better.

It is also very important to look for support from friends and family instead of dealing with everything by yourself. Speaking with others will help you keep your feet grounded and not get carried away by the stress.

Man With Van Hertfordshire

5. Reduce clutter as much as possible

Clutter is stressful. So to reduce the visual stress created by clutter, try to minimise the junk that’s occupying extra space in your home. You will feel more relieved almost immediately. You can clear the clutter using the Marie Kondo method or simply by organising things into three piles: sell, donate, and throw away.

This will also help you a lot with moving because you will have fewer things to worry about. You can even look at moving as an opportunity to declutter. Remember how we talked about trying to keep a positive mindset? Well, how you approach organising and decluttering can make a big difference.

Oh, and another pro tip? Unpack in your new location as soon as you can. This will help you avoid things piling up.

moving walkthrough

Do I need to do a final moving walkthrough ?

The primary purpose of a final walkthrough is to make certain that the property is in the condition in which you agreed to buy it, including whether agreed-on repairs, if any, were made, and that nothing has gone wrong with the home since you last looked at it.

What to Check During a Final Walkthrough:

  • Turn on and off every light fixture
  • Test all appliances
  • Check garage door openers
  • Flush toilets
  • Run the garbage disposal and exhaust fans
  • Test the heating and air conditioning
  • Make sure all debris is removed from the home
The big moving day checklist is almost finally here! Likely, you are probably feeling a mix of emotions from anxiety and excitement through.

One Week to Moving Day Checklist

The big moving day is almost finally here! Likely, you are probably feeling a mix of emotions from anxiety and excitement through to impatience for the day to arrive. You’re probably running on little sleep too, so don’t pack the coffee machine into the removal box just yet.

Here are some last-minute jobs you may have overlooked that are essential to make the move as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Confirm with your movers

Things are likely to have been pretty crazy lately, but nothing would be worse than waiting for a removalist van that never arrives. So whether you have friends and family helping, using professionals or both, make sure you check in to reconfirm the time and date of the move.

Last-minute logistics

Here is a list of the essential – and some not so obvious – tasks that need ticking off before you close the front door on your old home forever.

  • Head to the post office and arrange for your mail to be redirected.
  • Cancel or rearrange any regular domestic services such as a gardener or cleaner.
  • Cleaning the house for the next occupants is not just good manners, but often a legal requirement. You may want to book a professional for this job.
  • Check all necessary repairs and alterations to your old home will be finished by moving day, such as painting and laying carpets.
  • If you are moving out of an apartment, let your neighbours know of the date and apologise for any disruptions you may cause. An easy way is to put up a message on a notice board.
  • You may also be required to cover the inside of lifts when moving in or out of an apartment. Simply check with your body corporate.
  • Cancel any subscriptions, such as a newspaper delivery
  • Back up your computer – you may even want to do this on more than one device or storage system.
  • Pack yourself a moving day survival kit (see below).

If you have the energy

Hold a ‘house cooling’ party to say goodbye to the neighbours … plus it’s a great way to finish off any food in the pantry and freezer.

Surviving moving day

You have probably been more focused on clearing out your old home than what you will need once you arrive at your new one. Moving day is always busy and exhausting. The last thing you want to be doing when you’re tired is ripping open boxes trying to find items.

Don’t forget to keep these items close at hand.

Documentation

Keep any documentation related to the new or old house in a bright folder and next to your wallet and keys. Time is a precious commodity when relocating – you don’t want to have to be opening boxes searching for your moving contract or any other essential paperwork.

Pack a small overnight bag or suitcase

No matter how great your labelling skills may be, finding boxes with the right clothes during moving day madness may not be possible. Make sure you include at least one change of clothes for each member of your family, if not two.

Valuables

For peace of mind, keep all your precious items with you when you move. Whether it is jewellery, or something sentimental, you will feel better knowing it is safe. Also include important documents such as passports, car registration papers and medical records.

Toilet paper

We all know the importance of toilet paper – so throw a four-pack in the car ready to put into your new bathroom.

Basic toiletries

At the end of moving day, you will want (and need) a hot shower. So pack a special bag of essential items such as toothbrushes, tissues, deodorant, shampoo or soap in the car. Don’t forget to keep some towels separate – you don’t want to have to search for them in a box late at night.

Tools

A small toolkit containing a utility knife, scissors, screwdriver, Allen keys and a hammer can be a lifesaver when reassembling furniture and beds. Try and video yourself dismantling items – this can be invaluable in putting them back together.

Cleaning supplies

No matter how clean your new property is when you move in, you will want to clean it again to make it yours. Some helpful items include paper towels, wipes, surface spray, sanitiser, window cleaner, toilet brush, loads of cleaning rags and sponges. It is also a good idea to take the vacuum cleaner with you instead of with the removalist.

Eating essentials

We are not just talking about water and snacks to get you through the move. If your utilities haven’t been turned on yet at your new home, you will need to take some bottled water. Keep out some plates, forks, spoons, a few cups, mugs and of course, the kettle. Pick up some basics such as eggs, cereal, milk and bread on-route.

Electronic chargers

After a day of moving, your mobile phone and other important devices may be low on power. So make sure you keep the charges close by should you need to ring your real estate agent or maybe pizza delivery.

Bedtime supplies

When packing your removalist boxes, be sure to create one labelled ‘first night’. Load it up with sheets, pillows and blankets for each bed. You could also include some PJs in there. Don’t forget your kids’ favourite sleep toy. This will also make them feel secure spending their first night in new surroundings.

Kids toys and games

Youngsters may not be as excited as everyone else about setting up the new home. This is not the time to fret about screen time. Charge up those devices and download movies or games. Empty moving boxes or bubble wrap can be a lot of fun.

Give the kids crayons, textas or sticky tape and let their imagination run wild with some of your discarded packaging. You might be able to recruit older kids to help out with a few jobs – especially if you are paying some pocket money.

Medical kit

Be sure to have a first aid kit on standby and to pack any prescription medications.

Day of the move

Say goodbye to your old home

Take time to farewell your old home before things get too busy. Children, in particular, need closure. Walk through the property, recall fun memories and talk about all the fun you’ll have in your new place.

Work with your movers

Assist your movers by identifying fragile or large items right away. Supervise – without being intrusive – as they load everything into the truck. You will be signing off to confirm everything has been completed, so you need to be sure.

Final Check

Before the movers drive off, do one last check through the property to make sure you haven’t missed anything. Take one final look around before walking out the door. It’s very normal to feel emotional about moving house. Then switch your thoughts to your new property and starting the next chapter in your life.

How To Pack Refrigerator For Storage

How To Pack Refrigerator For Storage

If you’re putting items into storage, contemplating how to move a refrigerator can be an overwhelming thought. What is the best way to move a refrigerator? Is there a best way to transport a refrigerator to a storage unit? How do you pack a fridge? You don’t need to worry as in this article, we’ll share our top tips and advice on moving a fridge freezer to ensure the process is as seamless as possible.

The Best Way to Transport a Refrigerator for Storage

How do you transport a fridge freezer? To know how to move a fridge, follow these next steps.

Make A Clear Path to Your Vehicle

It’s essential that you make a clear path between your fridge freezer and your vehicle. As a refrigerator is a bulky, heavy item, it’s difficult to move. Ensure there are no trip hazards or any dangerous items in your way. If you have a pet, try to place it temporarily in another room.

Remove Doors If Needed

Once you’ve cleared your path, it’s time to measure your fridge and entrances to ensure that it will fit through them without hassle. If you think it may get stuck, it’s a good idea to remove the doors, as this will create extra space for it to fit through.

Slide Your Fridge Out Carefully

Carefully lift your fridge forwards so it’s on a slight tilt. Put furniture sliders under the back of the fridge. Place your body in front of your refrigerator, holding both sides. Push from side to side and then gently forward. At this point, it should start to move towards you.

Move Slowly

The top and bottom of your appliance should be evenly positioned on your trolley before you start to move it. When moving your fridge freezer out of your property, you must move slowly, especially if you have to move up or down stairs. In this case, one person should be in front and one at the back of the trolley. With the fridge at a 45-degree angle tilt, make your way up or down the steps with the person at the front gently pulling it towards them.

Use A Ramp to Place It on A Vehicle

Rather than lifting the fridge onto the vehicle, it’s much easier to use a ramp. This makes the process quicker and easier, preventing you from injuring yourself.

Place Your Fridge in An Upright Position

Fridges are best transported in an upright position and secured with extra ropes or cords. However, if this is not possible, then they can be placed flat on the floor of the vehicle. Make sure it’s as secure as possible and won’t topple over during transportation.

How To Pack Your Clothes

How To Pack Your Clothes

Moving can be overwhelming from packing, the actual move, up to unpacking. To make this process go as smoothly as possible, you must know how to pack the items you will bring with you.

When we talk about packing, clothes are usually the first on the list. And although this may sound easy, some people cannot just let their clothes be shoved in boxes with neglect.

Our clothes can have multiple purposes too. Some can just be tossed in laundry bags such as lounge shorts or boxers, while some need to be folded neatly in a suitcase such as those we use in formal events or luxury clothes.

Today, we will talk about several ways to speed up packing your clothes and ways to properly protect them from any damages before and after the move.

Need-to-Know Packing Tips for Your Clothing

Before packing your clothes, it’s important to check first which clothes go together and which need extra care. For example, casual shirts, night clothes, and rugged clothes can go in the same boxes or bags. Suits, gowns, or costumes may need a specific containment. Luxury clothing can also go in their old boxes, bags, or a suitcase.

Keep in mind that you also need to maximise all available moving boxes or plastic bags. Simply roll your clothes to allow more room for other clothes you intend to bring. Don’t forget to separate the ones you will no longer be bringing or those up for a garage sale.

Have Available Laundry or Plastic Bags or Hanging Packs

Once you finish sorting and folding your clothes, the next thing you need is containment. Clothes that didn’t get to the laundry can be tossed in laundry bags to remind you that once the move is complete, you will need to wash them. Gowns, dresses, suits, or other formal wear may need to be in hanging packs and go together in a clothes hanger rack. Undergarments can be placed in string bags to easily identify them.

Use Other Bags or Plastic Materials Like Zip Lock Bags

Other bags you have at home can also be useful during the move. A duffel bag can serve as extra storage for singlets, boxers, socks, and small towels. Large to medium zip lock bags can be useful for wet or laundry items. Vacuum bags can be used for bulky jackets or winter coats. Lastly, a drawstring trash bag can be used for lounge or casual clothes.

Make Sure All Bags, Plastics, or Boxes Are Clean for Unused Clothes

Clean and unused clothes must be kept in clean bags, boxes, and plastic too. This is to reduce extra work when it comes to washing a bulk of dirty clothes once you get to your new home. The last thing you want to do is unpack them, start arranging them in your new closet, and rest.

Once you have tucked all your clothes into their respective containers or bags, label them accordingly. Labelling your packed clothes can lessen the work of unpacking them. When you also know which ones should go first in your new closet, it also reduces the time spent rearranging them.

Practical Tips For An Autumn House Move

Practical Tips For An Autumn House Move

When you’re moving house, the time of the year will have a direct impact on how stressful moving day is. Extreme weather, in particular, can make your move more complicated, and it can result in you running behind schedule or having to contend with unpredictable issues. For this reason, removal companies consider autumn to be one of the best times of the year to move home. There’s unlikely to be a heat wave or a snowstorm in autumn, so you shouldn’t experience too many problems on moving day. Tips For An Au Practical Turn House Move

It’s often easier to prepare for an autumn move because children are back at school too, so you can pack your boxes in peace. You won’t have to worry about finding all-day childcare on moving day either. Not to mention, you will be settled into your new home in time for the Christmas festivities. So, planning a house move for September, October, or November can be beneficial. To help anyone likely to be moving this autumn, below we have put together some practical tips that may come in handy.

Prepare For All Weather Conditions

Whilst the weather is usually fairly mild during the autumn months, which is perfect for a house move, it can also be sunny, wet or windy. Try to dress for all eventualities on moving day, for example, wear jeans and a t-shirt but also have a jumper and raincoat to hand. You will then be comfortable if the weather is mild, but you can add some layers of clothing if it starts to get chilly or you experience some rain. Practical Tips For An Autumn House Move

Try To Avoid The October Half-Term Or Book In Advance

Generally speaking, removal companies are quieter during the autumn months, so you shouldn’t struggle to book the moving services you need. However, if your moving day is during the school’s October half-term, it may be harder to find a removal team with availability. To prevent any problems in this regard, try to arrange your house move for another day or ensure you’re booking as far in advance as possible.

Arrange Unpacking Removal Services

If your house move is before the clocks go back towards the end of October, it will start to get quite dark in the evenings. To prevent you from having to move boxes around in the dark and to make unpacking in your new home easier, it can be beneficial to book an unpacking service. A removal company can help you to settle into your new home much quicker, so you won’t have to contend with problems caused by a lack of daylight.

Add Some Lightbulbs To Your Essentials Box

Even if you book an unpacking service, you should still prepare for it getting dark earlier during the autumn. An extra tip is to have a selection of new lightbulbs in your essentials box. Then, if any of the interior or exterior lights in your new home aren’t working when you arrive, you won’t have to worry about going to a shop before you can start unpacking your belongings. This is something you will thank yourself for doing.

Protect The Floors In Your New Home

The last thing you want is your removal team ruining the flooring in your new home by walking over it with wet or muddy boots, so make sure you lay some plastic floor protection. A removal company will probably be able to supply you with this, and they may even lay it out for you too. Using carpet protectors can prevent you from having to clean up leaves and other debris as well, giving you one less thing to worry about on moving day.

3 Reasons Why You Should Book A Removals Home Visit

3 Reasons Why You Should Book A Removals Home Visit

When you’re moving home, one of the most important tasks during the lead-up to your move is booking a removal company. Although removal services are an additional cost to consider, they are always a worthwhile expense and they can help to make your move as hassle-free as possible. With a range of packing, removal and storage services available these days too, there is a solution for every homeowner.3 Reasons Why You Should Book A Removals Home Visit

If you’re starting to get quotes for the removal services you need, you will likely be able to request a quote online by filling out a detailed form. However, you can also book a home visit and arrange for a move manager to visit your property and provide you with a quote. This visit usually takes approximately 30 minutes and it can be very beneficial. If you are wondering whether booking a home visit is worthwhile, below are 3 reasons why, whenever possible, you should opt for this service rather than completing a quote form online.

To receive an accurate quote for removal services, it is essential to tell a removal company exactly what needs to be moved from A to B. The quote you’re provided will be based on the number and the size of the items you need to move, and lots of homeowners will underestimate their possessions when completing a quote form online. This results in the quote being wrong and additional charges being payable on moving day.

When you book a home visit, a move manager will ensure the quote provided covers the exact items you need moving. By showing a move manager around your home and pointing out everything that needs to be moved, you can trust you will receive an accurate quote. You won’t have to worry about unexpected charges on moving day and you can book the removal services you need knowing how much they will cost.

Ensure Moving Day Goes Smoothly

Some moves are more straightforward than others and booking a home visit can help you to prepare for all eventualities. When visiting your property, a move manager won’t just look at the different items you need to be moved, they will also look at things such as the access to your property and the width of your doorways, for example.

A home visit will enable a move manager to provide you with the best advice based on the precise requirements of your move. This can help to prevent avoidable problems on moving day and ensure everything stays on track. With many years of experience behind them, a move manager will know exactly what to look for during a home visit to ensure your move will be as straightforward as possible.

Find Out More About Additional Removal Services

Meeting a move manager during a home visit will give you the opportunity to find out more about the other removal services available. For example, if you’re interested in packing services, they can tell you roughly how many boxes you will require and how long the packing process will take on the morning of your move.

Asking any questions you may have about the different removal services available will help you to ensure you’re booking the right services for your move. You may find that a removal company offers more services than you initially realised too and they can take all of the pressure off of your shoulders on moving day, enabling you to focus on other things.

Organisation is key when you’re moving during the festive period, and one of the best things you can do is create a moving checklist. This checklist will help to ensure you’re not forgetting anything important at this very busy time of the year, and you can have peace of mind that you’ve done everything you need to for your move. To help you out, our team has put together a comprehensive moving checklist, so you don’t need to search the internet for one

Enlist The Help Of Some Experts

Instead of relying on family and friends to help you with your move, it’s highly recommended that you book professional removal services. A team of expert movers can make moving day much less stressful, and they will work with you to ensure everything is carefully transported from A to B. Lots of moving companies offer packing and unpacking services, and these are very popular around Christmas time. These extra removal services will prevent you from having to live out of cardboard boxes for weeks and help you to settle into your new home.

Buy, Wrap And Pack Presents In Advance

Even if you’re moving a few weeks before Christmas Day, we would still advise that you have all of your Christmas presents wrapped prior to your move. Being prepared with Christmas presents will give you one less thing to worry about, and you won’t have the hassle of trying to hide things during your move, especially if you have children. Ideally, you should put all of your wrapped Christmas presents into moving boxes and clearly label them; they will then be handled with care and not get lost amongst all of your other belongings.

An added tip is to send your Christmas cards out early, too. Post them before you move into your new home and include a note with your new address inside each card. This is a quick and easy way to tell all of your family and friends what your new address is.

Pre-Plan Your Broadband Installation

WiFi is considered to be essential nowadays, and it’s something you’re likely to need when you move into a new home, particularly if you video call family and friends over the festive season. December is a busy month for all businesses, and to prevent disappointment, you should book your broadband installation in advance. Once you know your moving date, do some research into broadband deals and speak to the company you’d like to install your internet connection.

Arrange A Grocery Delivery

When you’re entertaining family and friends this Christmas time or planning a housewarming party soon after your move, it can be beneficial to organise for shopping to be delivered to your new home. Supermarket opening times can differ a lot over the festive period with various bank holidays, and if you want your cupboards to be stocked up ready to welcome visitors, a grocery delivery will prevent the stress of trying to get to a shop and buy everything you need.

The Best Time To Book A Removal Company

Things You Need To Know About Hiring Removal Companies For Your Move

Several removal companies in Australia offer house and office removals. However, the struggle is in finding a reliable company that can help you from packing, moving, to unpacking your items. The Best Time To Book A Removal

When hiring a removalist, it is important to go through a list of considerations such as:

  1. List of Services – Before booking a move, it is important to consider a removal company that offers other services needed for a hassle-free move from packing, temporary storage, moving boxes and packing supplies, and unpacking.
  1. Geographical Service Areas – The geographical scope can also be another factor when hiring a removalist. If you are just moving house within the same city then you can book for local removal services. However, if you are transferring to a location away from the metro due, then consider hiring a removal company that offers regional or interstate moving services.
  1. Removalist Cost and Payment Options – Before you make a final decision, check how much a removalist costs in your area or find out what the average removalist cost is after you compare their prices. It may also be helpful to know the accepted mode of payment.
  1. Items That Can Be Included – Some removalists may exclude certain items such as your valuables, oversized items, luxury items, flammable or liquid materials, etc. It’s important to learn more about these details so you won’t end up frustrated when they reject some items.
  1. Packing Supplies and Available Moving Boxes – Looking elsewhere for moving boxes or packing supplies can add to your stress and eat up more time. A removal company that also offers these items is something you should look for.
  1. Extra and/or Temporary Storage – In some cases, your new house location may have a smaller space and may need you to keep some of your items elsewhere. Consider hiring removalists that can offer temporary storage may it be for short-term or long-term use.
  1. Insurance Coverage – Before you set the date for your move, make sure that the removal company not just offers quick delivery and moving but also insurance coverage in case your items get damaged or lost.
  1. Removal Policies (Delays, Complaints, etc) – Too many unreasonable removal policies plus long turnaround times to resolve complaints, can be a good indication of not hiring a particular removalist. Look for removal companies with clear and reasonable policies that offer a prompt resolution for complaints or other customer concerns.
  1. Accessible Customer Support – Another consideration is how easily you can contact the removal company by phone, email, chat, or social channels. Are they also responding when answering queries about removal costs, hourly rates, dos and donts etc? Knowing that you can easily talk to someone also gives you the confidence to hire a specific removalist.
  1. Trustworthiness Through Social Proof – When you start looking for a removalist in Brisbane or Gold Coast for example, do you see an impressive star rating in Google or other local listings? Do customers happily share feedback about their move with this company? If so, then it’s a good go signal to book a move with them.

Finding A Removal Company and Why It’s Best To Book Early

After you have all the details when it comes to cost, including services, policies, service areas, reviews and ratings, and other considerations, it’s time to make a decision. Once you have a removalist in mind, it is best to book your move early. Two-week preparation can be enough if you are only moving house with a few items and will be relocating within the same metro area. A two to a month-long preparation may be necessary if you are moving for a regional or interstate move or if you have a lot of items to bring.

Why It’s Important To Find The Best Removals Company For Your Needs

Having a trustworthy and reliable removals company gives you confidence before, during, and after the move. Knowing that all your items are expertly packed and handled, you can simply relax until the move is completed. A removal company with years of experience in local, regional, or interstate moving and also knows how to pack and unpack your items can be the ideal choice.

Why Booking Early Could Save You Money On The Day Of The Move

Booking your move in advance gives you more options when it comes to logistic trucks and the number of movers available. Checking for the best dates can also have better rates such as booking for a date that falls on a weekday vs a weekend or booking for an off-peak season. Some removalists also offer better rates when you book your move early.
